What Is a Doula?
A doula is a trained professional who offers emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. She’s not a replacement for your doctor, midwife, or partner — but someone who comes alongside you to hold space, help you feel confident in your choices, and stay grounded through the twists and turns of the birth journey.
For me, being a doula isn’t just a profession — it’s a calling. I believe birth is holy ground. It’s raw and beautiful, challenging and transformative. I’m here to walk with you through it all, helping you feel beheld in your experience and beloved in your identity as a mother.
What Does Doula Support Look Like?
That looks different for every mama — and that’s part of the beauty of it.
Sometimes, it means counter pressure, massage, grounding touch, or a gentle word when things feel overwhelming. It might mean reading Scripture, repeating affirmations, or praying over you as you labor. Sometimes it means stepping back and giving you and your partner space to bond and work together as a team — I love supporting dads, too.
It always means being available, listening deeply, and helping you feel informed, empowered, and emotionally safe. I offer:
On-call support via text and phone from the moment you sign on
Resources on birth options, optimal fetal positioning, nutrition, supplements, and holistic care
Referrals to trusted providers like chiropractors, lactation consultants, and postpartum professionals
Evidence-based resources so you can make confident, informed decisions
Whether you’re planning a home birth, hospital birth, epidural, or unmedicated experience — I’m here to support you and your vision for birth.
Do Doulas Really Help?
Research says yes — and I’ve seen it firsthand. The presence of a doula has been shown to:
Decrease the risk of cesarean by 39%
Shorten labor by an average of 41 minutes
Increase the chance of a spontaneous vaginal birth by 15%
Decrease the use of pain medication
Improve newborn outcomes
And perhaps most importantly — reduce the risk of a mother feeling unsatisfied or unsupported in her birth experience
(You can explore more of this research at Evidence Based Birth.)
Do You Replace My Partner?
Not at all! Your partner brings something only they can offer — love, familiarity, and emotional connection. My role is to support both of you, offering reassurance, practical help, and reminders when you need them most. I help guide your partner so they feel confident supporting you. Together, we make a powerful team.
What If I’m Planning an Epidural?
Doula support is just as valuable for medicated births. Even with an epidural, you still benefit from:
Preparation beforehand
Emotional support during the wait and decision-making
Help with positioning to keep labor progressing
And a calm, knowledgeable presence in the room
Birth is unpredictable — and no matter how it unfolds, I’ll be right there beside you.
